Scout Camp Fundraiser - Simple Simon Pie Vouchers

The Scouts are gearing up their fundraising campaigns looking to raise $9000 in order to take 12 youth the summer camp.  As a part of this effort we have Simple Simon Pies for sale.  Having just sampled some of my first pies myself, I can safely say that they are great!

Lost Lake Cabin making good Progress

Another successful weekend building on the Cabin... Most of the roof rafters are in place, and the log wall on the lake side is almost completed. Next Sunday and Monday we hope to get the rest of the rafters up, and some plywood and roofing paper in place so the cabin is protected from the weather, and we can get the framing inspected. See attached photos. Coming out? Let Alan know, or just show up! See photo below, of cabin with it's temporary tarp.

Lost Lake Cabin Construction...progresses

Great work group this past four days, resulted in the roof beams all in place, and some of the roof joists installed. Burnt Timber Lifting Solutions brought out two Spyder cranes to help lift the beams in place. The 2nd Airdrie Ventures and 175th came out to assist, along with several 18th Leaders and alumnai. We put up a temporary tarp again to protect the building until the roofing is in place. Next construction weekend is Friday to Sunday October 24th to 26th. Let Alan know if you are coming and we'll put an extra bean in the pot for you. (403-615-2399)

Lost Lake Cabin is under construction

Great progress on our work week... please come and help for the day or evening... call 403 637-2299 (let it ring) if you want to check it out,or need directions. Today we got the floor framing completed, and part of the subfloor. Tomorrow we start on the walls! The scouts were a great help screwing down the subfloor this evening. (see photos)

Cabin Building Permit finally approved.

It has been almost exactly a year since our Building permit for the Ward Cabin at Lost Lake camp was approved, and then rescinded because the zoning was not correct. After a long process of getting the camp rezoned to "Public Service District", and then a Development Permit approved after some small technicalities were cleared up... and the Building permit is back in our hands!.

Lost Lake Camp gets a Loader-Backhoe donation.

Sean Falle, one of our leaders came to me and said his uncle Dan in Saskachewan had an old Loader Backhoe tractor that he would like to donate to our Scout Camp. The problem was how to get it there. We had a trailer donated, and Sean used his pickup truck to tow it... and away we went to pick up a John Deere 1010 Tractor built in 1961. Don't laugh... it works!... and is now on site at the camp. It will be a real asset in moving construction materials during cabin construction, digging holes, and clearing snow. Alan Photo: Sean Falle and Alan Davidson with tractor at Lost Lake.

Rocky View Scout Campsite to rebuild after fire this spring

From the Rockyview News, and copied on Calgary Chinook Council Facebook page. By: Kristen Spruit Monday, Mar 03, 2014

Scouts Canada received the necessary land rezoning approvals from Rocky View County (RVC) council on Feb. 25 to rebuild a cabin that was destroyed by a fire on one of their campsites in northwest RVC in 2010. Lost Lake Scout Campsite, which borders Mountain View County, is a wilderness campsite developed and maintained by the 18th Calgary Scout Group since 1966, explained Camp Committee Chairman Alan Davidson.
