The Scouts had an excellent hike up to Powderface Ridge with an elevation gain of 750m over 5km for an average grade of 20%! They kept moving all the way up and were in good spirits at the ridge and on the way down. Way to go!

The group is having their first bottle drive on October 14th and we are looking for as many volunteers as possible to come out and help. Each bottle drive can raise as much as $3000 for the group to help fund our activities throughout the year. Generally the group attempts to subsidize the programs of the youth through this fundraising to cover about 50% of the costs. This allows us to ensure that the programs are affordable across the board and available to all our youth.

There are other bottle drives that are planned this year, weather permitting, just after new years and again in the Spring. We look forward to seeing you there!

Firstly I want to thank all the volunteers and parents that worked so hard to make the banquets a reality. There were numerous tasks to complete from organizing and distributing the food to be cooked to the cooking itself, and then to the serving itself. All of them were executed excellently, good work everyone! The meal was great and every bite that I had was cooked to perfection.

For the Scout Banquet I also wanted to recognize all the Scouts that achieved awards as well. Good work to you, I can't put your names on the site, but there was much consideration and I am proud to have so many deserving Scouts.

We also had an excellent campfire with songs, skits and many cheers. I know I had a good time and it sounded like all the parents did as well. I look forward to next years banquets.

I was under the impression that the Scouts were going to need instruction on their Cross Country Ski Technique.  It turns out that all they needed was a little practise and we were off down the trails and up to the Chateau.

The Scouts did a great job dividing up the meals and taking on a course each.  Everything they prepared was great and the Cinnamon Buns at breakfast were a big hit.

The Scouts were hard at work building catapults to launch tennis balls across the gym.  They worked out great and all the patrols all lobbed them across the gym to great effect.  I was very pleased to see how well the groups interacted and put their catapults together.  They had to apply their lashing techniques and helped each other complete the task.  Good work everyone!

The Scouts were out at Lost Lake this weekend past, vying for the title of patrol chefs of the year.  Each Patrol was challenged to find a recipe, do the planning, put the shopping list together, buy all the ingredients and then prepare a stew that could be sampled by the leaders.  Only catch, we didn't provide them with a stove, they had to do all this cooking in a dutch oven over the fire.

The scouts created tripods to hang their dutch ovens from, built the cooking fire and then prepared their stews and the verdict was that both the stews that the leaders got to sample were great!  As for the other two, I have no idea as they so thoroughly were enjoying their stew that they forgot to bring a sample for the leaders.

After dinner we shared skits, songs and some cheers, but as the night got colder the Scouts decided that their finale would be a great magic trick, where, with a puff of smoke and misdirection, they all disappeared into their tents.  It was 9:00pm.

The entire group did a great job at the Remembrance Day ceremonies.  The Scouts especially enjoyed lunch at Smitty's up at Westbrook where they got to stuff themselves at the Breakfast Buffet.  They also got to run around and check out the Millitary Museum to look at all the wartime memorabilia.
